Replaced the index to baptisms at Whickham for 1740-1759 with full details, so those 3,073 baptisms are now instantly available. Samples:

  • 30 Oct 1743 Adaline Onely, of Swalwell, daughter of Bartholemew Onely by his wife Jane
  • 23 Oct 1756 James Frame, of Swalwell, privately baptised illegitimate son of James Kell (of Hexham, [Northumberland]) by Isabel Frame
  • 28 May 1758 William Hepplewaite, of Lowhand, son of Thomas Hepplewaite by his wife Mary

During this period, abodes are identified only as one of the four quarters of the parish: Whickham, Lowhand, Swalwell, or Fellside – the individual farms and hamlets are not named. Lowhand, also called Lowside, is not found on modern maps; it was the northeast quarter along the river covering the area that is Dunston today. Swalwell is west of Lowhand and north of Whickham village, bordered on the north by the Tyne. Fellside was the southwest quarter, covering Marley Hill, Sunniside, and Gibside. I guess Whickham quarter or township made up the rest of the parish, but I haven’t found documentation on that yet.
